OSINT and AI Act – the ARICA webinars

September 24, 2024
ARICA – Assessing Risk Indicators of Child Sexual Abuse

The ARICA project consortium would like to invite LEAs for two webinars. The first one is on legal challenges in OSINT in case of countering CSAE, and the second one on the AI Act and its impact on Law Enforcement. Check out the details below.

On 17 October 2024 at 14.00 CEST, the ARICA project is organising a webinar on the white paper it produced as part of its EU-wide legislation monitoring activity.

The white paper discusses three of the main current legal challenges in open source investigations of CSAE on the dark web, common to LEAs across the EU:

Challenge 1: the procedural legality of the use of OSINT in CSAE investigations on the dark web;
Challenge 2: the rules of the recently adopted AI Act and their impact on AI-driven OSINT tools to be used for CSAE investigations on the dark web;
Challenge 3: the impact of the data protection rules of the Law Enforcement Directive (LED) on the use of OSINT tools in CSAE investigations on the dark web.

The white paper is freely available here: link.

If you are interested in learning more about these topics, please register for the webinar free of charge through the following link:

The link to connect and the slides used in the webinar will be sent to you before the event.
Please note that this event is meant for Law Enforcement only.

Moreover, on 13 November 2024 at 14.00 CEST, the ARICA project is organising another webinar. This time on the recently published AI Act and its impact on Law Enforcement.

The webinar will provide:

  • An overview of the overall intentions of the AI Act and how this will impact law enforcement;
  • Information on forbidden use cases and high-risk (regulated, but allowed) use cases related to Law Enforcement, such as:
  1. Can you profile (future) offenders using AI?
  2. Can you use AI for case data analysis and insights?
  3. Can you use AI for OSINT?
  4. Can you use AI as part of live facial recognition systems?
  5. Can you use AI as part of post-facial recognition systems?
  6. Can you use facial recognition systems and other biometrics systems using AI in online environments?
  • Details on obligations for Law Enforcement when using High-risk AI, making the distinction between:
  1. Law enforcement users making their own AI tools or finetuning/adapting existing tools for their use;
  2. Law Enforcement users using AI tools they get from a third party (either commercially or e.g. through Europol’s Tools Repository);
  • Details on the new obligation under the AI act for Law Enforcement users: the Fundamental Rights Impact Assessment (and how to go about this in practice);
  • The timeline for the application of the AI act and what you need to know today to prepare;
  • An opportunity to ask questions and to have a discussion with peers.

If you are interested in learning more about the AI Act and to prepare for the legal requirements of tomorrow, please register for the webinar free of charge through the following link:

The link to connect will be sent to you in advance of the event.
Please note that this event is meant for Law Enforcement only.
