A New International Publication on Preventing Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation

August 29, 2025
2PS – Prevent and Protect through Support

Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) remains one of the most pressing challenges of our time. While the scale of the problem is staggering, growing evidence shows that prevention is possible – if we act early, coordinate across sectors, and build systems that focus on stopping harm before it occurs.

The new edition of PLATFORMA responds directly to this need. Bringing together experts from Europe and around the world, it offers a broad overview of current knowledge, practical needs, and innovative solutions in CSAE prevention. The publication spans research insights, initiatives concerning survivors and people at risk of offending, legal frameworks, therapeutic models, and real-world initiatives – highlighting what works, what is missing, and where we must go next.

Among the themes explored, PLATFORMA covers:

  • how pornography use can shape pathways into harmful behaviour,
  • insights from people at risk of offending that reveal barriers to help-seeking and opportunities for prevention,
  • legal and cultural obstacles that limit early intervention,
  • innovative digital tools, helplines, and therapeutic platforms offering low-threshold support,
  • training frameworks that strengthen professional competence and cross-sector capacity.

By combining a global outlook with a strong focus on Central and Eastern Europe, PLATFORMA serves as a unique knowledge resource for professionals, policymakers, and organisations committed to building safer societies.

Contributors to this edition include organisations from across Europe and beyond, such as Protect Children, Lucy Faithfull Foundation, IPPPRI, MOORE Center, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, NUDZ, Childlight, WeProtect Global Alliance, Empowering Children and others. Their knowledge and commitment have been vital in shaping this publication.

PLATFORMA is coordinated by the Polish Platform for Homeland Security and was officially launched in Poznań during the Final Knowledge Transfer Workshop of the Prevent & Protect through Support (2PS) project, whose achievements and lessons learned provided an important spark for this edition and are extensively covered throughout.

PLATFORMA is available primarily as a digital edition, ensuring wide access, with only a limited number of printed copies produced. Read and download the full publication at pphs.pl
